SPOT Summer Adventure August 7-11, 14-18 2017

What is the Summer Adventure program?

The SPOT’s Summer Adventure is 2 week half day or full day therapeutic environment geared for children of preschool through late elementary school age.   Children with and without special needs are invited to attend.  The Children’s SPOT specializes in working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Speech/Language Disorders, Gross Motor and Fine motor delays, social skills differences and behavior challenges.  

The SPOT Summer Adventure program includes specialized instruction in the areas of speech/language, social, sensory, music, gross and fine motor skills.  Children are grouped by age and ability.  Activities are rotated on a 30 to 45 minutes rotation throughout the day in the following:

  • Music and Movement Group
  • Speech and Language Group 
  • Occupational Therapy Gross and Fine Motor Skills Group 
  • Play Group (preschool age)
  • Social Thinking Group (based on language ability)

The above groups will incorporate the following:

  • Vocabulary and Literacy skills
  • Communication training
  • Vocational/Life Skills Activities 
  • Sensory Centers/Activities
  • Yoga and sports related activities
  • Art and cooking activities
  • Supervised use of the multi-sensory room and the therapeutic gym equipment to help keep our adventurers regulated and engaged.

Who will provide instruction and supervision?  

Structured activities are led by experienced, certified professionals assisted by support staff; a 2:1 student: staff ratio is maintained during each structured group activity.  Certified professionals include: Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, BCBA/Behavior Specialists and Special Education Teachers;  support staff include:  ABA technicians and interns/students undergoing course work in a field related to OT, Speech/Language or Education.

When is it? August 7th-11th and 14th-18th, 2017

Summer Adventure is offered full day (M-R 9am to 3pm, F 9am to 1:30pm) or half day (M-F 9am to 12pm).  Exact drop off and pick-up times/protocols will be provided prior to the start of camp.

How much does it cost?  

  • Half day is $350.00 per week, full day is 700.00 per week
  • We request a $25.00 registration fee to accompany the registration form.  This fee is waived for current clients.
  • A 250.00 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot is due by May 1.
  • Your balance is due on July 1.  Refunds on the balance will be provided up to 1 month prior to the start date if a child cannot attend during their reserved week.

Other important information

  • Children will need to bring their own lunch and snacks. Half day adventurers will have lunch prior to leaving at 12:00.  Please disclose any food related allergies.
  • Medication will not be administered by any member of The SPOT staff, any medication requirements will need to be fulfilled by the parents. 
  • We request that children bring their communication modality to camp with them (ex. PECS book, Voice output device).
  • We will not be able to provide refunds due to illness.  If a child becomes ill, they must be fever free and without vomiting for 24 hours before they can attend.
  • Use of visual supports to assist in setting expectations and improving comprehension of information will be incorporated throughout the day.
  • Behavior strategies including use of positive behavior supports will be implemented as needed.
  • Peer models will also be incorporated, depending on age. 
  • A daily schedule will be provided to parents prior to the start of camp.
